a flat porcelain basketball hangs from the ceiling by a rubber tube. Pulling on it imi-tates the movement of a bouncing basketball.

26 yoga mats were deformed with rubber tubes in the same way.
In my diploma project “MEGA SPANNUNG“ (“Mega Tension“) I deconstruct the phenomenon of sport and work on its fragments in an ironic way. At the center of my research-based investigations is the dichotomy of performance and failure, which is still inherent in sport despite its change in social meaning (from high-performance sport as the ideal of meritocracy to sport in the context of individualization and social differentiation processes). The resulting works also address the multidimensional tension of finding oneself and self-alienation (e.g. the flag-sportswear-hybrids in “Heroes and Villains”), as well as the ongoing struggle against human limits (“Bounce”: a flat basketball made of porcelain that imitates bouncing on a rubber rope).
