“TESTING MY VIVIDITY“ is a site-specific installation that resulted from the Arts and Science Residency “Künstlerische Tatsachen“ in 2022.
It took place in cooperation with the Institute for Biological Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Jena and is based on their research on Predictive Coding Theory. The theory of predictive coding describes the brain as a statistical machine that constantly makes predictions about reality. These predictions are based on models of the world that emerged from past experiences.
In an examination of the theory, the work „Testing my Vividity“ presents an imaginative architecture of the brain that questions the human ability to see objectively. By deconstructing the functionality of architectural essentials such as windows and pillars, the work emphasizes and reflects the tension between gaining knowledge about reality and the striving for continous order and coherence in the perception of the world.
